If you have any problems installing SOFA Statistics, or getting it to work properly, please either:
- ask for help on the discussion group
- contact the lead developer directly (contact us)
- or file a bug report at launchpad.net.
To install and make this work on Windows the user has to be an administrator (unless it is a very old version of Windows).
- Right-click the program icon or Start Menu entry.
- Select "Run as Administrator"
After this, Windows may prompt you to confirm you want to run with these permissions. You may be warned that the program does not have a Windows-approved trust level. You must confirm you want to run the SOFA installer.
Once the software is installed then the user can be demoted back down to a non-admin account and the software works with no problems.
If you have an old version of Windows you'll want to update IE to at least version 11 so you can view charts etc inside SOFA without having to open reports. You need to do this even if you use Firefox, Chromium etc as your web browser
If you download the deb file to your Desktop you can install with a command like:
cd ~/Desktop && sudo apt install ./sofastats-1.5.6-1_all.deb
SOFA uses ImageMagick software to export charts as PNGs. If the default ImageMagick resource settings on your machine are too low SOFA will tell you what to change.
Version 1.5.x is not yet available for Mac. Community help will be required to package 1.5.x successfully and that may take a while.
If you get a message like "not compatible with your OS. Instead we recommend trying ..." when trying to install on your local machine, change your Gatekeeper settings to "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere". See Gatekeeper settings.
The tar.gz file contains a README.txt and an installation script to run. It is assumed you know what you are doing. For Arch Linux, for example, cd to directory containing file, sudo pacman -U sofastats-1.5.6-1-any.pkg.tar.xz, ignore permissions warning. Also see Non-Ubuntu/Debian Linux Installation
